I just found out that I got a sizeable (for me) grant! I've been cautiously optimistic about my odds on this one, but was also comfortable with my backup plan (which would delay the completion of my field work my approximately 1 year but mean a shorter trip to the field this spring). I've been waiting on this to make plans for returning to Ukenzagapia, but now this means all systems are go and I leave ASAP. Eek! It's both exciting and waaay intimidating, as this means I'll be gone for about 3 months and have so much to do in the field while I'm there. Not to mention what I have to do before I leave!
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Thanks folks! I'm excited that people are still reading my blog in spite of my infrequent posts.
that's great. i think being funded is great both bc you get the $ (obviously) but also bc it is a nice validation of your research questions/project, etc. as well as your ability to convey the importance to the reviewers. godo skills to have! congrats!

Congratulations - you totally deserve it! Can't wait to see results - whatever happened to that note you were trying to submit?
Congratulations! Nothing better than grant funding, eh?
Congrats! When do you plan on leaving, and when will you come back?
Congratulations! That's fantastic news!
Will this next 3-month field trip be your last?
Thanks everyone! To answer several questions:
sarcozona- That note is steadily growing larger and is going to be resubmitted somewhere else (3rd try).
Megan- I'm leaving the last week of January and returning at the end of April (no tickets yet but I'm pretty sure that's what I'll do).
EGF- No, not the last one yet! Hopefully this will be the penultimate trip and I'll finish (fieldwork) in the fall...
Wow, the end is in sight!
Congrats!!!!
yay, have fun!
